CPI DECEMBER 2010

PRICE SITUATION: Year-On-Year

The CPI for all income households for the province of Camarines Sur is 162.5 index points in December 2010. This figure is 3.11 percent higher than the CPI in December 2009 of 157.6 index points.This month’s provincial inflation rate is 3.1 percentage points. Compared to November 2010 inflation rate of 2.9 percentage points, this month’s rate is higher by 6.90 percent. ­­­The level of the province’s inflation rate could be attributed to the changes in the indices of major commodity groups, namely, Fuel, Light and Water (10.23%); Food, Beverages and Tobacco (2.68%); Services (2.43%); Clothing (0.99%); Miscellaneous (1.63%); and Housing & Repairs (2.83%).       

PRICE SITUATION: Month-On-Month

Prices in Camarines Sur for the month of December 2010 went up to 0.68 percent from 0.19 percent growth in November 2010. Food, Beverages and Tobacco (FBT) group index recorded an increase from 0.18 percent in November 2010 to 0.55 percent in December 2010.  A higher price was noted in Fish Items at 0.83 percent in December 2010 from -0.75 percent in November 2010. Meat Items also increased from -0.88 percent in November 2010 to 0.32 percent in December 2010. Fruits and Vegetables decreased from 2.53 percent in November 2010 to 1.05 percent in December 2010. Miscellaneous Foods Items reflected a slow price increase from 1.03 percent in November 2010 to 1.52 percent in December 2010. Eggs, Dairy Products and Cereal & Cereal Preparations remained at its posted index points of 164.1, 147.0, and 172.7 percent respectively. Tobacco and Beverages Items increased from 0 percent growth in November 2010 to 0.67 percent and 0.12 percent in December 2010.

Non-food reflected a slight price increase from 0.25 percent in November 2010 to 0.82 percent in December 2010. Clothing and Housing and Repairs remained at its posted index points of 122.3 and 134.4. Fuel, Light  and Water increased from 0.67 percent in November 2010 to 3.80 percent in December 2010. Services Group also increased from 0.21 percent in November 2010 to 0.37 percent in December 2010. Miscellaneous Group decreased from 0.15 percent in November 2010 to 0.08 percent in December 2010.

As a result of the price trends cited above, the Purchasing Power of Peso (PPP) of the province of Camarines Sur remained at 0.62.
