PRICE SITUATION: Year-On-Year
The CPI for all income households for the province of Camarines Sur is 165.0 index points in February 2011. This figure is 3.58 percent higher than the CPI in February 2010 of 159.3 index points.
This month’s provincial inflation rate is 3.6 percentage points. Compared to January 2011 inflation rate of 3.8 percentage points, this month’s rate is lower by -5.26 percent.
The level of the province’s inflation rate could be attributed to the changes in the indices of major commodity groups, namely, Fuel, Light and Water (11.04%); Food, Beverages and Tobacco (3.44%); Services (2.68%); Clothing (0.91%); Miscellaneous (1.70%); and Housing & Repairs (1.79%).
PRICE SITUATION: Month-On-Month
Prices in Camarines Sur for the month of February 2011 went down to 0.30 percent from 1.23 percent month-on-month change in January 2011. Food, Beverages and Tobacco (FBT) group index recorded a decrease of 0.42 percent in February 2011 from 1.58 percentage points in January 2011. A higher price decrease was noted in Fish Items, Meat Items, and Fruits and Vegetables from 2.67 percent, 1.01 percent and 1.55 percent in January 2011 to 0.33 percent, 0.12 percent, and 0.44 percent respectively. Cereal and Cereal Preparations also decreased from 2.20 percent in January 2011 to 0.57 percent February 2011. Eggs Items increased from 0.67 percent in January 2011 to 1.33 percent in February 2011 while Dairy Products remained at its posted index points of 147. Tobacco Items reflected an increase of 1.83 percent in February 2011 from 0.74 percent in January 2011. Miscellaneous Foods, Non-Food Items and Beverages slightly decreased from 0.80 percent, 0.75 percent, and 0.18 percent in January 2011 to 0.25 percent, 0.12 percent, and 0 percent in February 2011 respectively.
Clothing remained at its posted index points of 122.3. Miscellaneous Group slightly increased in its posted index point from 131.6 in January 2011 to 131.9 in February 2011 while its month-on-month change remained at 0.23 percent from January 2011 to February 2011. A higher price decrease was noted in Fuel, Light and Water from 1.33 percent in January to -0.47 percent in February 2011. Housing and Repair and Services Groups also decreased from 1.04 percent and 0.74 percent in January 2011 to 0.44 percent and 0.16 percent in February 2011.
As a result of the price trends cited above, the Purchasing Power of Peso (PPP) of the province of Camarines Sur remained at 0.61.
