CPI MARCH 2011

 

PRICE SITUATION: Year-On-Year

The CPI for all income households for the province of Camarines Sur is 165.8 index points in March 2011. This figure is 4.28 percent higher than the CPI in March 2010 of 159.0 index points. This month’s provincial inflation rate is 4.3 percentage points. Compared to February 2011 inflation rate of 3.6 percentage points, this month’s rate is higher by 19.44 percent. ­­­The level of the province’s inflation rate could be attributed to the changes in the indices of major commodity groups, namely, Fuel, Light and Water (13.77%); Food, Beverages and Tobacco (4.27%); Services (3.37%); Clothing (0.99%); Miscellaneous (1.30%); and Housing & Repairs (1.79%).      

PRICE SITUATION: Month-On-Month

Prices in Camarines Sur for the month of March 2011 went up to 0.48 percent from 0.30 percent month-on-month change in February 2011. Food, Beverages and Tobacco (FBT) group index recorded a decrease of 0.12 percent in March 2011 from 0.42 percentage points in February 2011. Cereal and Cereal Preparation also reflected a decrease from 0.57 percent in February 2011 to -0.79 percent in March 2011. Meat and Miscellaneous Foods also decreased from 0.12 percent and 0.25 percent in February 2011 to -0.12 percent and  -0.30 percent in March 2011. A higher price increase was noted in Dairy Products from zero percent change in February 2011 to 1.77 percentage points in March 2011. Eggs, Fish, and Fruits and Vegetables also increased from 1.33 percent, 0.33 percent, 0.44 percent in February 2011 to 2.45 percent, 1.13 percent, 1.52 percent in March 2011 respectively. Beverages also showed an increase from zero percent change in February 2011 to 0.80 percent in March 2011, Tobacco, however, slightly decreased from 1.83 percent in February 2011 to 1.43 percent in March 2011.

Non-Food Items slightly increased from 0.12 percent in February 2011 to 0.99 percent in March 2011. Housing and Repairs and Miscellaneous Items reflected a slight decrease from 0.44 percent and 0.23 percent in February 2011 to zero percent change and 0.08 percent in March 2011. A higher price increase was noted in Fuel, Light and Water from -0.47 percent in February 2011 to 3.42 percent in March 2011. Clothing and Services Items also slightly increased from zero percent and 0.16 percent in February 2011 to 0.08 percent and 0.94 percent in March 2011.

As a result of the price trends cited above, the Purchasing Power of Peso (PPP) of the province of Camarines Sur decreased to 0.60.
