PRICE SITUATION: Year-On-Year
The CPI for all income households for the province of Camarines Sur is 161.1 index points in October 2010. This figure is 3.20 percent higher than the CPI in October 2009 of 156.1 index points.This month’s provincial inflation rate is 3.2 percentage points. Compared to September 2010 inflation rate of 3.5 percentage points, this month’s rate is lower by -8.57 percent.
The level of the province’s inflation rate could be attributed to the changes in the indices of major commodity groups, namely, Fuel, Light and Water (8.87%); Food, Beverages and Tobacco (3.02%); Services (2.50%); Clothing (1.24%); Miscellaneous (1.47%); and Housing & Repairs (2.75%).
PRICE SITUATION: Month-On-Month
Prices in Camarines Sur for the month of October 2010 went up to 0.31 percent from 0.12 percent growth in September 2010. A higher price was noted in Fuel, Light and Water group index at 1.06 percent in October 2010 from -0.67 percent in September 2010. Slow price decrease was noted in Food, Beverages and Tobacco (FBT) group index from 0.43 percent in September 2010 to 0.31 percent in October 2010. Among its subgroup, Fish items reflected an increase of 1.89 percent for the month of October 2010 from 143.0 index points in September 2010 to 145.7 index points in October 2010. Price decrease was observed in Meat Item by -0.93 percent from 161.5 index points in September 2010 to 160.0 index points in October 2010. Among Food Items, increase in Cereal and Cereal Preparations were however slower from 172.5 index points in September 2010 to 172.7 index points in October 2010, slower price gain was also noted in Dairy Products, Eggs and Miscellaneous Foods items from 149.0 to 147.0, 163.8 to 163.9, and 194.3 to 194.9 index points in October 2010 respectively. Beverages also increased slightly by 0.06 percent from 162.0 index points to 162.1 index points in October 2010 while Tobacco remained at 135 index points.
Non-Food items recorded an increase of 0.25 percent from 157.4 to 157.8 index points. Clothing, Services and Miscellaneous groups reflected slow increase at 0.08 percent, 0.16 percent, and 0.08 percent respectively.
As a result of the price trends cited above, the Purchasing Power of Peso (PPP) of the province of Camarines Sur remained at 0.62.
